PAC’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Sandiford, welcomes the Children’s Minister Edward Timpson’s announcement that children adopted from care and those who leave care under a special guardianship order or residence order will now attract the new ‘pupil premium plus’.
The DfE has indicated that this will be made available to schools via the school census which will identify children adopted from care that have been declared by the parents at the time of admission or later.
Peter believes this to be a significant step in meeting the needs of adopted and other permanently placed children and is consistent with a proposal put to the Department by PAC for funding an education project with boroughs in the North London Adoption and Fostering Consortium in December 2012.
